Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference

Background

OTEC 2009 marks the 63rd annual meeting of this statewide conference.  The Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference is a two-day conference attended by over 2,600 people from across the state of Ohio.  OTEC is co-sponsored by the Ohio Department of Transportation and The Ohio State University, and the conference is organized to provide something for everyone interested in Ohio’s transportation industry.  The program tries to address the latest policy and technical information, as well as covering new ideas in transportation policy, planning, design, construction, maintenance, operation, local government, and management of transportation resources.

(2009) Theme

“Moving Ohio into a Prosperous New World.” In order to build upon a strong foundation, we must offer safer, greener choices, enhance partnerships with governments and stakeholders, help create good jobs and drive business growth, and invest in an integrated multi-modal transportation. Sub themes that are included in the general theme are Structures, Pavements & Materials, Traffic/Safety, Administration & Management, Multi-Modal Planning & Environmental Issues, Construction, GeoTechnical and Infrastructure Assurance.

Who should attend?

Engineers, government officials, professors, researchers, regional planners, consultants, contractors, students, industry representatives, and anyone with an interest in transportation.  In 2008, the attendees fell into five broad categories, including: ODOT employees (30%), consultants (34%), government officials (9%), contractor/industry officials (12%), students and university personnel (6%) and others (9%).

Location

The Greater Columbus Convention Center is located at 400 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio.  The Hyatt Hotel will be this year’s host hotel (614-463-1234), and is connected to the Convention Center.

Exhibits

Nearly 200 commercial exhibitors are expected to participate, and Ohio universities are invited to display their most recent transportation research.  Exhibitor registration will begin the beginning of August.
