Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference
October 28-29, 2008
Sponsored by The Ohio Department of Transportation and The Ohio State University

Join transportation officials, government, and members of the academic community at the 2008 Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference - one of the nation's largest transportation conferences.  The conference features exciting speakers, technical sessions, and an exhibit area.  Meet other professionals in your specialty area and share stories of innovations in transportation.  Below you will find a fact sheet outlining the conference.

Background

OTEC 2008 marks the 62nd annual meeting of this statewide conference.  The Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference is a two-day conference attended by over 2,400 people from across the state of Ohio.  OTEC is co-sponsored by the Ohio Department of Transportation and The Ohio State University, and the conference is organized to provide something for everyone interested in Ohio’s transportation industry.  The program tries to address the latest policy and technical information, as well as covering new ideas in transportation policy, planning, design, construction, maintenance, operation, local government, and management of transportation resources.

(2008) Theme

“The Power of Multi-modal Transportation:  Linking Ohio to the World on All Fronts."  In a time of growth for Ohio, we simply cannot build our way out of congestion.  What we must do is embrace a multi-modal transportation network that consists of highways, rail, aviation and waterways.  Sub themes that are included in the general theme are Structures, Pavements & Materials, Traffic/Safety, Administration & Management, Multi-Modal Planning & Environmental Issues, Construction, GeoTechnical and Infrastructure Assurance.

Who should attend?

Engineers, government officials, professors, researchers, regional planners, consultants, contractors, students, industry representatives, and anyone with an interest in transportation.  In 2007, the attendees fell into five broad categories, including: ODOT employees (28%), consultants (35%), contractors (7%), government officials (10%), students and university personnel (5%) and others (15%).

Location

The Greater Columbus Convention Center is located at 400 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio.  The Crowne Plaza Hotel will be this year’s host hotel, and is directly across from the Convention Center.

Student Sponsorship

This year’s Conference marks the eighth edition of the successful Student Sponsorship Program, which matches Ohio college/university students from transportation-related disciplines with leading organizations throughout the Ohio transportation industry.  During the Conference, students “shadow” representatives of sponsoring organizations, learning about the roles and contributions of the sponsoring organization in the transportation industry.  In addition, the student can attend OTEC sessions with his/her sponsor, as well as visit the exhibit displays together to gain a first-hand look at how the various aspects of the industry interact and support each other.  For further information, please contact Lisa Hall @ (614) 644-0273.
